I’ve visited the Karneval der Kulturen 2005, a street-party with over 100 trucks from all kinds of nations presenting their culture and music. The Carneval took place in the multi-cultural district Kreuzberg and went from early afternoon till late at night. Relaxing. More Pictures for you to see here.

Kubrick Exhibition Berlin

March 23rd, 2005

There is a very interesting exhibition about the works of Stanley Kubrick at the Martin Gropius Bau, Berlin - showcased are his popular but also less known movies with detailed information about the process of creating the sceneries, music and technical aspects. Kubrick-fans, Movie-fans and arty people should have a look before it's too late. The exhibition is running till April 18th 2005. More information (german)

Wow, very star warsish. Berlin's architecture surprised me once again!

Found somewhere on the internet, sorry for no credits

During my last visit in Vienna I've come across a new store on my favorite shopping street. It's called A1 Lounge and was built on 700m² in 11 months for the austrian mobile provider A1. The interior design and very techno-stylish computers provide you a unique and interesting stay. The building is split into entry hall with terminals, bar at the first floor and the shop in the cellar. A cool thing about the shop is that you get a virtual shopping cart (zombie-handy) on which you save your buyings, then move on to the cashier to get the products and pay. Nice and futuristic idea.

Absolutely amazing what guys at the age of 14-25 are doing with their BMX Bikes. We've visited the Sportification Event during the BMX Flatland Contest. Riders from all over the world showed their abilities to rock their vehicles! I've made two short videos for you.

The Sanatorium 23 is a very clean bar with an industrial but still very comfortable feel to it. It's located right next to the corner of Frankfurter Allee and Proskauerstraße, easily accessible by public transport. During the night you can grasp the red light from meters away, so there is no excuse for not having found it :) Read more about the interior/graphic design, the electronic music spectrum and check out the pics. You should visit this bar, you're gonna love it!

The atmosphere inside the Sanatorium 23 is calm during the day/early evening and can get a lot crazier when the DJ arrives! ;) The music style varies from softer house to more beat pumpin' minimal techno, except for tuesday for the "Hörspiel Abend". Lots of the waiters are DJs themselves, like DJ Tiasz who's playing techno. The communication with your pears won't be disturbed though, the music volume is just right.

Talking about the interior design: it's so awesome! a mix between aluminium-steel materials, colored wood and super soft couch-beds. Check out the toilets, you've never enjoyed a toilet session that much, believe me! ;)

The Sanatorium Crew is also doing a lot for the local art scene, so every couple of weeks they're presenting new photos, paintings, t-shirts and other creations in the bar.

Bar Menu
very nice graphic design and cool idea with the colored chemistry table. Each set of characters represents a drink, "O" for example is pure water. Talking about drinks, you should definitely try the "Apfelstrudel", a very fine mix between the tasty vodka Grasovska and apple juice.

Some Pictures I took for you guys (more are available on their website)

From the outside

Those super-nice japanese style sitting benches with black/white table, looking like a chessboard.

Interesting lamp, DJ console and the bar in the background

I took this picture during a live concert of the german eletro pop band Mini Beat Club.

Homophobie, the act of hating or fearing homosexual people was tagged onto a street sign at Simon-Dach Straße. Once again some people took advantage of the night and drastically changed a street name. Check out the pics for further adaptations.

Other fake streetnames I have encountered while browsing around the city:

  • "Osama Weg"
  • "Scheißbullen Weg"
  • "Bob Marley Straße"
  • "Schinkenstraße"
  • "Du-Sack-Gasse"

An american friend of mine, Derick Rhodes, is blogging funny stories about his life in Berlin, experiences with inhabitants ;), exciting Newsheadlines and more crazy stuff. Check it out at http://berlin.typepad.com/berlin_blog/

I'm reading an interesting book, written by DJ star Laurent Garnier, about the beginnings of electronic music and its development till today. Very well put into context and with lots of his favorite playlists you can listen to online. the book is in french and available at amazon.fr
